The Khumbu Treks

Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar

Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp through the Khumbu Valley
While few of us can seriously consider climbing Mount Everest, most physically fit people can make the mind-boggling journey to the base of the mountain on foot. Four-time Everest summitter and Alpine Ascents International guide Wally Berg will lead two back-to-back treks to Everest Base Camp, to run concurrently with the climbing action on the mountain.

Berg's face is well known throughout the Khumbu as he has made at least 16 different trips to the area as a climber, expedition leader and trek leader since he first walked into Namche Bazaar in 1987.

Berg will lead two 15-person trekking parties. The trekkers will fly from Kathmandu to the airstrip at Lukla via Twin Otter aircraft, then make the 12-day hike to Everest. Days spent at Namche Bazaar, the center of the Sherpa universe, as well as Thyangboche, home of the famous monastery at 12,000 feet, are highlights of the treks.

Side trips, such as the one to the remote village of Thame, and Berg's unparalleled knowledge of Sherpa culture, make these journeys the adventure of a lifetime for the participants. Daily dispatches from Berg, along with digital images, will allow everyone to take part in the adventure.
