Transcript:
Hi everyone, this is Craig Calonica up at Everest advance base camp at 6:30 pm.

Jean Troillet and Stephan Shaffter — and we found out later a Japanese soloist went up with them — left at about two in the morning and were up at camp II near 7500 meters — I think that's where they turned around — due to extremely bad wind slab conditions. [High wind has piled large amounts of avalanche-prone snow on the lee side of the ridge] The Japanese guy cut one slide loose on himself and fortunately he didn't go with it.

It's snowing right now. It looks like the weather is going to be bad for maybe seven days. We have a satellite photo that we're going to be looking into here in the next hour or so. If that's the case we're going to be going back down to base camp to rest and let it do what it wants to do. No reason to hang out here and get burned out.

That's about it for this afternoon. We just kind of sat around and took it easy and tried to get used to 21,500 ft. We'll fill you in with the latest news tomorrow again. Goodbye.

— Craig Calonica, Expedition Leader
