Hi there gang at the Mountain Zone, Scott Darsney reporting in at 11:30am Alaska time.

We're here at 17,000 and we're debating the big weather picture again. And we decided to try and go for it this afternoon. We're going to leave in a half hour here. There's two German people and another solo person, I think, roped behind them—and they're almost to the top of Denali Pass.

We have light winds, clear skies, lots of lenticular clouds all over and we think we've got a 50% shot at it right now. We may turn back, but this is our fifth day here at 17 and it is time to move and give it a shot.

So, if you hear from us again then we're doing well and if you don't hear from us then probably we're in some heinous weather and are trying to retreat. So, we'll keep you updated during the day as we make our summit attempt here. Talk to you later, this is Scott Darsney signing off.

Monday, June 28, 1999—2:23pm(PST)

Hi there gang, Scott Darsney here again at 1:15 in the afternoon Alaska time. The weather was just too squirrelly and these big lenticular clouds were coming off the summit on Denali Pass. We all decided to bail, us in the American Alpine Ascents group and also a couple park service people, John and Simon that are there. So, we'll hang until tomorrow and see what this squirrelly weather decides to do. Talk to you later, bye.
