Hello Mountain Zone, this is Jamie Pierce calling from Arusha, Tanzania, starting of our Kilimanjaro Expedition. We've left Nairobi this morning — the heat of Nairobi — on our way down to Arusha and arrived about six hours ago; did an equipment check.

We have 12 very excited expedition members ready to head up on the mountain. Gear check went really good. The main points that are a little bit off for right now are the temperatures have been very hot. Obviously, it's the dry time right now and the mountain, just sort of west of here, has experienced a pretty big wildfire that's been burning for about the last four days. So, it's been pretty hazy. We were able to see the mountain coming down from Nairobi, just south of Namanga, which is on the boarder right between Kenya and Tanzania. It was pretty amazing to see the remnants of that fire.

But everyone is healthy, at this point, and very excited to head up tomorrow. We wake up early, head up to the Machame Gate and meet our small army of porters and head up to the Machame Hut tomorrow night. And I'll get a phone call out tomorrow night and let you know how the progress of that day went. But as of right now, everything is going great. I will let you know how things get going. So, all the best from Arusha, Tanzania, Jamie Pierce, out.
