Jacobellis Takes Second Despite Deep Cut
SBX #1
Arosa, Switzerland — January 16, 2004

Ben Jacobellis (Bondville, VT) battled through a deep cut in his left leg suffered just after the finals start to take second in the first of two snowboard cross World Cups in Arosa Friday. According to team doctor Melinda Roalstad, he was taken to a nearby hospital in Chur for further examination. Ben is the second Jacobellis to land a World Cup SBX podium in two weeks after younger sister Lindsey won her first World Cup race in Bad Gastein, Austria on Jan. 5.

Teammate and World Championships silver medalist Seth Wescott (Farmington, ME) finished fourth behind winner Stefano Pozzolini of Italy and third place finisher Alexander Maier of Austria. The win for Pozzolini jolted him to the top of the menís overall SBX standings.

Reigning World Champion and current SBX points leader Karine Ruby of France took the women's race, while Maria Danielsson of Sweden, Tanja Frieden of Switzerland and Zoe Gillings of Great Britain went 2-3-4. No American women competed.
