Shoe-Suckin' Mud Machame Camp - Thursday, August 22, 2002
Hello Mountain Zoners, this is Vern Tejas with Alpine Ascents' Kilimanjaro climb Team (transmission breaks up), which means pulling together.
We have climbed through the most amazing rainforest today, where there was some mud, as a matter of fact there was...(another team member) Shoe-suckin' mud! You heard it, you heard it here first, shoe-sucking mud. It was phenomenal. Everybody came through with flying colors, with big smiles on their faces and dirt all over their lower bodies. And we finally got through the rainforest, up into the high heather, giant heather, the moorlands, and broke out of the wet and into the dry and now we're camped out in the Machame Camp, which is at 9,520' above sea level.
A full moon has just risen and we've just got a full belly because we've just eaten dinner and we're sitting around reminiscing about wonderful things and thinking about reciting poetry.

(female team member) Well, that should get you going. And we're out here howling at the moon. So, please stand by and tune in tomorrow night, when we will have the Shira Plateau report. Ciao for now, tally-ho. Vern Tejas, Alpine Ascents International Guide and MountainZone.com Correspondent |
