Kristina Koznick: Exclusive Interview

Questions by Manuèle Lang:
So, Kristina, how was your race today?

Kristina Koznick:
It was good! My goal is top 15, and hopefully I'll hang in there. And it was good. The sun is out and I'm in the States, so I couldn't be much happier.

Manuèle:
How did you feel yesterday after the freeskiing?

Kristina:
Um, Okay. I just chose the Giant Slalom skis that I'm going to ski on for the season yesterday or the day before so that was good for my confidence. You know it is tough to feel good free sking because it was powder here. You know, the race turned out great considering how much snow we've had in the last two or three days.

Manuèle:
How different was the snow yesterday and today?

Kristina:
Amazingly different. I mean there was powder almost up to our knees and shins yesterday and they turned this into a great course and I was blown away. I think that we were all ready for soft conditions and it was great.

Manuèle:
How was it technically?

Kristina:
For me it was okay, and I'm working on a couple things. I'm still in the start saying 'okay. pinch. get your hands forward.' and that is different from the girls who are going to win this race. They are just going to win. So I'm still working on things, and every day gets better.

Manuèle:
How different was it between the first and second run for you?

Kristina:
Um, quite a bit. The first run was much more to my liking... a lot of turns, a little bit less speed, you know this had a lot of speed, not as many turns - and I'm working on that but I'm not a speed demon yet.

Manuèle:
After Soelden, How is your confidence now?

Kristina:
It is good. I mean it is great. The fact that I know that I'm not even at the top of my game, and I'm still in there, that is good. Every day, my confidence builds. So it's good.

Manuèle:
What do you hope to achieve this season?

Kristina:
My goal in GS to be in the top 15 at the end of the season and I know that I have my work cut out for me. That's great, and I really want to win the slalom title. And I have almost more work cut out for me there because I'm having some trouble finding skis. So we'll see.

Manuèle:
How important is it for you to be here today in Park City?

Kristina:
It is really important. This is fun for me to start the season here because this is where my fans can come and see me. They can't come all the way to Europe, it's too far. So everyone here really supports me and that means a lot.

Manuèle:
Thank you.
