Iditasport Extreme 2001
Calling All Adventure Racers
11 DEC 2000

Iditasport, recognized as the leader in winter adventure sports, is amazed at the adventure racing teams lack of interest in the Iditasport Extreme, slated to start February 24, 2001. Putting up a $20,000 purse with a $10,000 first prize, only one team has entered.

"Looks like Team Peak.com will get $10,000 for just showing up and finishing," Race Director Dan Bull stated. "I guess I'll just be pocketing the other $6,000 for second and $4,000 for third."

The team version consists of 130 miles on a mountain bike, 80 miles on skis, and the final 140 miles on foot — all on the snow-packed Iditarod Trail. Entry for the four-person team is $5,000.

Iditasport is no newcomer to the solo adventure sports scene, with 130-mile Iditasport in its eleventh year, the 350-mile Iditasport Extreme in its fifth, and the 1,100-mile Iditasport Impossible in its second year. This year a record number of solo racers are vying for part of the $60,000 purse.

Bull continued, "This confirms two things: one, Iditasport does indeed produce the toughest events in the world; and two, this 350-mile winter adventure race is too tough for the fair-weather yuppie adventure racing community. This one may be way over their heads!"
