Team Propeller-heads has just arrived at transition area 6 after
mountain biking down the rough access road of the small Mount Potts ski area. Though the all-downhill ride came as a relief to them, members had to be slow and cautious as they were laden with heavy packs of mountaineering equipment.
Anxious to make the most of the daylight as it heads off on a 33-km kayak downstream, Propeller-heads wasted no time in the transition. From kayaking, they then switch to rafts to tackle the whitewater. The Rangitata is one of New Zealand's most exciting stretches of white water. This gutsy river provides rapids up to grade V short, sharp and very demanding.
The team was looking fresh despite the distance it has covered, though there was some concern of frostbite after enduring a frigid night. Members have also been suffering from nagging coughs they attribute to the dust they
very forced to inhale on the dirt roads yesterday.
